What services do we offer?
Our diabetes centres offer the following services from our team…
Our philosophy is that we like to achieve maximum tight control of the diabetes patients in order for them to attain an HBA1c reading of 7% or below.
In order to achieve this, we insist on:-
- Regular contact and consultations with our diabetes nurse educator.
- Teaching patients how to use glucose monitoring meters and when to take the measurements. Meters are usually supplied free of charge to our CDE patients. Those on the CDE program (DMP) receive their strips as part of the program, whereas other patients will be supplied with an ongoing script to obtain the strips from their pharmacy of choice.
- Advice on which appropriate oral medication to take. Patients on the CDE DMP receive this medication free, other patients receive a script.
- Explaining to the patients when and why insulin needs to be commenced.
- Instruction and teaching on how to use insulin pens and the various types of insulin available. Patients on the CDE DMP receive their insulin as part of the program. Other patients receive a script.
- Regular frequent consultations with our diabetes doctor until stability has been achieved, thereafter appropriate monthly checks.
- Monitoring of weight and blood pressure.
- Podiatric assessment of the patients’ feet.
- Dietetic advice
- Ophthalmologic assessment by an eye specialist to assess retinal status
Consultations with the doctor and other health professionals are all part of the CDE DMP. The same consultations are available to private patients on a fee per service basis.
